Serving UT and the Austin Community
Service is one of the four pillars of our organization. Texas Spirits accounts for over 2,000 hours of service each semester! Spirits complete their service hours through weekly events, such as Feed My People, Micah 6, StarKids at Saint Louise House, and many more. We also volunteer in a variety of events and projects each semester, often collaborating with other student organizations to work for great causes.
Texas Spirits has two main philanthropies that we continue to raise money and awareness for throughout the year.
Our first philanthropy, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and South Texas, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to granting the wishes of children with life threatening diseases to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. Texas Spirits grant multiple wishes to children each year, and have even participated in some of the events!
Our second philanthropy is Saint Louise House. This organization provides affordable and supportive housing for homeless women and their children with the goal of helping families develop long-term stability. We are fortunate to get to interact with this Austin nonprofit through an annual Halloween festival and other events that Texas Spirits coordinates.
Our largest annual event is Band Jam, a charity concert benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Saint Louise House. Band Jam started in 1995 and has been getting bigger and better every year.
Mr. Spirit began in the spring of 2014 and has been a success each year! Contestants from different male organizations apply to participate in the competition. We crown a Mr. Spirit, Mr. Philanthropy and Mr. Congeniality. Make sure to join us for our 2018 Mr. Spirit competition. You will not be disappointed with the talented and hilarious men from around the UT campus!
